Highwood Crossing
Materials that age with intent and a building that, over time, will require very little maintenance makes for a singular project brief. Highwood Crossing was just that.
As always, our client’s needs were of primary concern to us. So, working within a budget, using an existing building and forging ahead based on what we already had to work with was the plan of attack. Pulling from what was quite a utilitarian building – we used the available materials, added companion elements, built out a four post canopy, added a green roof and created a functional and intentionally-designed gutter system. The result is a building that ages maybe not with grace necessarily, but certainly with intent. The timber was chosen to weather with time and the metals will change and age in tune. Very little about this building requires maintenance, and yet, it will never look as if maintenance is required.
Wabi-sabi at its finest. Highwood Crossing is relaxed and weathered. Unfussy. Clint Eastwood in building form.
