Social Spaces
This residence is a perfect example of the type of project that Peake loves. Not only the build itself but the clients! This particular couple had a strong theme in mind, and the brief was detailed and specific. While some companies might want to take the reins entirely, Peake prefers to work with people, not just for them. We want to help build their dreams. In this case, a dream retirement home. For this couple, living spaces were not the priority. Instead, social spaces were at the heart of their vision. This made for unique space planning and some creative decision-making along the way. The bedroom, living area, and kitchen are intentionally tight, but we kept them open and age-in-place appropriate. Nicely juxtaposed, the social spaces are large and perfect for the lives and interests of our clients. The music room (located above the garage) is the jewel of the space. Almost a concert hall in itself; it is the heart of the home.
Due to such specific space planning, we kept the space as open as possible. A hybrid of wood-frame exterior walls and timber structure allows ample natural light throughout the home. It also provides high ceilings that maintain the feeling of openness in an otherwise tight space.
When you can play music like a professional, stare out into the wilds of rural Alberta and catch a good night’s sleep all in one place… what more do you need?
